To mark Architecture Day, we invite you to two public architecture talks in English with Prof. Dr. Tien Ling and Prof. Dr. June-Hao Hou from NYCU Taiwan
We All Live in a Spatial Database – Collections of Taiwanese Urban Landscapes
Prof. Dr. Tien Ling, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung Universität (NYCU) Taiwan
Let’s treat our daily lived-in environment as a de facto database! Complex urban landscapes can be spliced into discrete data points that can later be rearranged and combined, differentiated and integrated, and copied and pasted into visual information. The talk presents research and work by Tien Ling from the Graduate Institute of Architecture at NYCU, Hsinchu, Taiwan. From the perspectives of geographic information, spatial interpretation, and media representation, the works showcase Taiwan’s fluid urban systems and their spatial features.
Humanistic and Assistive Society Through Creative Engagement
Prof. Dr. June-Hao Hou, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung Universität (NYCU) Taiwan:
This talk presents a series of case studies in humanitarian architecture, offering insights into how educational institutions and civic organizations in Taiwan collaborate on public issues through design, art, and technology. By highlighting these interdisciplinary practices, the talk explores how creative engagement can foster more human-centered and supportive environments—where architecture is not only a physical intervention, but also a social and cultural catalyst. Through these examples, the presentation invites reflection on how collaborative, cross-sector approaches can help shape a more inclusive and resilient society.
